The artistic aim of the "Milano Hot Jazz Orchestra" is to recreate the typical sound of the American orchestras having a high number of musicians like the ones of Duke Ellington and Fletcher Henderson who played in the period between 1928 and 1933. But in order to maintain the same sound by means of a "restricted" number of musicians, it has been decided to constitute the classic jazz band of eight elements instead of the eleven/thirteen of the normal big bands.

The "Orchestra" shows four wind instruments in the front-line and four rhythmic ones in the back-line. The peculiarity of the "M.H.J.O." is the proposal of different musical arrangements and sounds which are possible thanks to the harmonic combinations created by the instruments of the front-line.

Davide Cornaggia, for instance, is the youngest musician in the Orchestra; he plays trombone, tenor sax and clarinet. Alberto Schinelli takes care of the arrange, ments as a supervisor and plays tenor sax, soprano sax and clarinet. Claudio Perelli transcribes and adjusts the arrangements piked up from the old-time records and plays alto sax, cornet, soprano sax and clarinet. Paolo Gaiotti plays cornet, washboard and is also a vocalist. Jack Russo plays banjo, sings and provides the ideas for the repertory of the Orchestra, thanks to his sound experience as one of the most important records collector in Europe. Pep Inzaghi plays sousaphone and is the secretary of the whole organization. Guido Castelli plays drums with particular attention and care as regards any rhythmic aspect of the epoch in question. Carlo Marchesi, piano player, is in charge for the organization of concerts and Jazz Festivals.

Moreover there are three additional persons to whom the "M.H.J.O." is particularly grateful for their important help in the achievement of the success on the part of the orchestra:

Luigi Fiocchi,"The Master", is a sound engineer, carpenter and a gentleman who is always available for anything which may be of utility to the organization.

Augusto Caprotti, classic jazz expert, is a lively partner in the artistic decisions and a precious supplier of recording material.

Herman Ravanello, classic jazz expert, collector of recording material and exceptional promoter of the most important goals reached by the band.
